Rico Lewis' sister Sacha turns professional with Man City

Sacha Lewis, the younger sister of England international Rico Lewis, has signed her first professional contract with Women's Super League side Manchester City. The 18-year-old defender follows in the footsteps of her older brother, who also rose through City's academy to become a key figure in the men's team under former manager Pep Guardiola.

Lewis joined City at under-14 level and progressed through the ranks, earning a place in the matchday squad twice last season as the club clinched their first WSL title in a decade. The England Under-19 international was also named in the squad for the Women's League Cup semi-final against Chelsea, though she is yet to make her senior debut for the club.

A family affair at the Etihad

Rico Lewis, three years Sacha's senior, made his senior debut for City in 2022 and featured 11 times in the Premier League last season. The right-back has also earned five caps for England, with his most recent appearance coming in 2024.

Speaking after signing her contract, Sacha expressed her pride and gratitude. "It's amazing," she said. "A lot of hard work was put in and it's such a great achievement. I'm proud. It means so much, it means even more because I support City. Being here in the academy, not many people get this opportunity so I'm very grateful."

High praise from City's leadership

City's director of football, Therese Sjogran, described Lewis as "a shining example to her team-mates despite still being just 18." Her development underscores the strength of City's academy pathway, which has produced both male and female talents in recent years.

Andree Jeglertz's City will begin their WSL title defence at home against newly promoted Birmingham City on 6 September. Lewis will hope to add to her matchday appearances as the season progresses.
