Short overview
England goalkeeper Khiara Keating has turned down a new contract at Manchester City and is uncertain about her future. The 21-year-old academy graduate is considering a move for regular playing time after limited WSL appearances last season.
England goalkeeper Khiara Keating has turned down a new contract offer from Manchester City, casting doubt on her future at the club. Her current deal expires next year, and she has attracted interest from other Women's Super League sides.
The 21-year-old, a lifelong City fan and academy graduate, may leave this summer in search of more regular first-team football. Last season, she competed with Japan's Ayaka Yamashita for the starting goalkeeper role, making only four WSL appearances.
Success amid limited game time
Despite limited minutes, Keating was part of a successful City squad that won their first WSL title in a decade and lifted the Women's FA Cup after defeating Brighton. Her individual accolades include becoming the youngest goalkeeper to win the WSL Golden Glove in the 2023-24 season, keeping nine clean sheets at age 19.
International career
Keating earned her first senior England cap in October 2025, starting in a friendly defeat to Brazil at the Etihad Stadium. She was also part of the squad that won Euro 2025. However, she missed June's crucial World Cup qualifiers against Spain and Ukraine due to concussion and lost her place in Sarina Wiegman's squad at the start of 2026.
With the Women's World Cup approaching next year, Keating will be eager to regain her spot in the national team. Her performances for City have established her as one of England's most promising young goalkeepers.
New episodes of the Women's Football Weekly podcast are available every Tuesday on BBC Sounds, featuring interviews and extra content from the WSL and beyond.
