Short overview

England international Freya Godfrey has signed a new three-year deal with London City Lionesses. The 21-year-old forward was a key player in their debut WSL season, scoring six goals and earning senior England call-ups.

England international Freya Godfrey has signed a new three-year contract with London City Lionesses, committing her future to the club until at least 2028. The 21-year-old forward was a standout performer in London City's debut Women's Super League (WSL) season, contributing six goals and four assists as the team finished sixth in the table.

Rapid rise through the ranks

Godfrey initially joined London City on loan from Arsenal in January 2025 before making the move permanent last summer. Her performances in the WSL earned her several call-ups to the England senior squad during the 2025-26 season, highlighting her rapid development.

In the previous campaign, Godfrey played a pivotal role as London City won the WSL 2 title, securing promotion to the top flight for the first time in the club's history. Her contributions were recognized by her peers, who voted her the Players' Player of the Season.

Player's perspective

Speaking about the new deal, Godfrey expressed her delight at extending her stay. "I'm made up to sign a new contract at London City. I've loved my time here so far," she said. "We have world class players here, people who have won World Cups, Champions League titles and know what it takes to win. I'm training and playing alongside players I looked up to when I was growing up."

Godfrey also emphasized the importance of game time in her development. "A big part of a young player's development is game time and having been given time, I feel I've come on in leaps and bounds on the pitch and also off the pitch," she added.

Looking ahead

The new contract secures Godfrey's future at a club that continues to invest in young talent. With her blend of pace, skill, and goal-scoring ability, she is expected to remain a key figure as London City aims to build on their promising first WSL season and challenge for higher honors.
