Arsenal women have completed the signing of England midfielder Georgia Stanway from Bayern Munich on a free transfer. The 27-year-old joins after deciding mid-season to leave Bayern at the end of her contract, following a four-year spell in the Bundesliga where she won eight trophies.
Stanway's trophy-laden career
Stanway moved to Bayern from Manchester City in 2022 and went on to claim two Bundesliga titles, two DFB-Pokal cups, and four other domestic honors. Before her move to Germany, she won the Women's Super League title, three FA Cups, and three League Cups with City. At international level, Stanway has scored 33 goals in 93 appearances for England and was an integral part of the Lionesses' historic Women's European Championship triumphs in 2022 and 2025.
Player and coach react
“It's an unbelievable feeling and I'm so proud to be joining Arsenal,” Stanway said. “This is a massive club that is driving the women's game forward to new levels and I want to be a part of it. I want to win trophies and grow as a player, and this is the right place to do that with the backing of an incredible fanbase.”
Arsenal head coach Renee Slegers added: “Georgia is a brilliant midfielder and we're thrilled that she is an Arsenal player. She will add a new dimension to our midfield, bringing experience and adding to our winning mentality. We look forward to getting down to work in pre-season [with] a big campaign ahead.”
Stanway becomes Arsenal's first signing of the summer transfer window as the club prepares for the upcoming Women's Super League season and a push for silverware.
