Short overview

Johan Manzambi scored twice off the bench to lead Switzerland to a 4-1 victory over ten-man Bosnia and Herzegovina, moving the Swiss to the top of Group B. The Freiburg midfielder became the youngest Swiss player to score multiple goals in a World Cup match.

Switzerland moved to the top of Group B after a Johan Manzambi-inspired victory over ten-man Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Freiburg midfielder struck twice in a goal-laden second half as the Swiss followed up their opening-match draw against Qatar with an impressive and ultimately deserved victory.

First half fails to ignite

After a forgettable first period, the match burst into life after the interval. The Bosnians had lost Tarik Muharemovic to a red card for a professional foul on Breel Embolo, reducing them to ten men and shifting the momentum in Switzerland's favor.

Manzambi sparks second-half goal spree

Manzambi came off the bench in the 71st minute and immediately made an impact, crashing home an unstoppable first-time strike to open the scoring. Fellow substitute Ruben Vargas doubled the Swiss advantage with a smart right-footed finish in the 84th minute, before setting up Manzambi to settle the outcome and put himself in the adidas Golden Boot picture.

At 20 years and 247 days, Manzambi became the youngest player to score two or more goals in a FIFA World Cup match for Switzerland. He is also the first player to score multiple World Cup goals for the Swiss having come off the bench.

Bosnia pulls one back but Xhaka seals win

The Bosnians pulled a goal back in stoppage time with a ferocious Ermin Mahmic strike in the 90+3 minute. There was no hope of a comeback, though, and Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka restored their three-goal cushion as time ticked down with a coolly dispatched penalty in the 90+7 minute.

The victory puts Switzerland at the top of Group B with four points, while Bosnia and Herzegovina remain winless after two matches.
