Every FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Winner Since 2002

The FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup has crowned champions since its inception in 2002, with five different nations lifting the trophy. A History of Champions

2002: USA – The Inaugural Triumph

The United States, already dominant in the senior game, took home the first U-20 title in Canada. Lindsay Tarpley's 109th-minute golden goal secured a 1-0 victory over the hosts in the Edmonton final.

2004: Germany – A Nation's Double

A year after the senior German team conquered the world, their U-20s followed suit. Germany defeated the reigning champions USA in the semi-finals and then beat China PR 2-0 in the final to claim their first youth world title.

2006: Korea DPR – A Debut to Remember

Korea DPR opened their debut campaign with a stunning 2-0 win over Germany and cruised through the group stage. Late goals against France and Brazil propelled them to the final, where they thrashed China PR 5-0 to clinch the title in emphatic fashion.

2008: USA – Redemption in South America

After a six-year drought, the USA reclaimed the trophy in Chile. Sydney Leroux and Alex Morgan scored nine goals between them, including one each in the 2-1 final victory over Korea DPR.

2010: Germany – Hosts Make History

Germany became the first host nation to win the U-20 World Cup, powered by Alex Popp's ten goals. Popp opened the scoring in the 2-0 final win over Nigeria, capping a dominant campaign.

2012: USA – A Captain's Lead

Captained by Julie Ertz, a USA squad full of future senior World Cup winners took the title. Despite a 3-0 group-stage loss to Germany, they won the final 1-0 thanks to Kealia Ohai's strike.

2014: Germany – Extra-Time Glory

Germany and the USA continued their rivalry, but it was the Germans who prevailed in Canada. Lena Petermann's extra-time goal secured a 1-0 win over an Asisat Oshoala-inspired Nigeria in the final.

2016: Korea DPR – Comeback Kings

Korea DPR regained the trophy a decade after their first triumph. After an extra-time victory over the USA in the semi-finals, they came from behind to beat France 3-1 in the final in Port Moresby.

2018: Japan – Breaking the Mould

Japan became the first nation other than the USA, Germany, or Korea DPR to win the U-20 Women's World Cup, defeating Spain in the final.
