Everton captain Megan Finnigan signs one-year extension

Everton captain Megan Finnigan has signed a one-year contract extension with the Women's Super League club, ensuring she will spend a 20th year at the club including her time in the academy. The 28-year-old centre-back, who missed the entire previous season due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, expressed optimism about her recovery and return.

Longstanding commitment to Everton

Finnigan, who joined Everton's academy as a child, has now committed to a 20th year with the Toffees. She made her senior debut in 2015 and has since made over 200 appearances for the club. The new deal extends her stay at Walton Hall Park, where she has become a key figure in the squad.

Recovery from ACL injury

Finnigan spent last season sidelined after suffering an ACL injury. In a statement, she said: "I am feeling very positive at the minute. I am glad to get this sorted, and recovery-wise I am in a good place. I have been in over the off-season, working hard to get back." She added: "This will be my 20th year at the club and that's special for me. Hopefully it is even more special because it is the season that I make my return."
