West Ham United have completed the signing of Switzerland international defender Nadine Riesen on a three-year contract, the club announced. Riesen joins after leaving German side Eintracht Frankfurt, where she made 69 appearances in the Frauen-Bundesliga between 2023 and 2026.
The 26-year-old full-back is versatile and has experience playing in the Women's Champions League (WCL). She has earned 42 caps for Switzerland and featured in all four of her country's matches at Euro 2025, scoring against Norway on home soil. Riesen made her international debut in 2019.
Fourth summer signing for manager Rita Guarino
Riesen becomes West Ham manager Rita Guarino's fourth signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Katie Zelem, Constance Picaud, and Laia Codina. Guarino expressed her satisfaction with the addition, praising Riesen's attributes.
“She is a full-back with pace and attacking quality that will complement our playing style,” Guarino said. “Nadine works extremely hard for the team and has a never-say-die attitude, which is something that we value within this group. Over the last few years, she has grown into an important player for her national team and that experience will be really valuable for us.”
Riesen excited by West Ham move
Riesen said she was thrilled to join the club. “When I heard about West Ham's interest in me, I was super excited. It's a huge club with a proud history and I'm very happy to be here,” she said. “It already feels like a family here and everyone has given me such a warm welcome since I arrived. The Women's Super League is one of the best leagues in the world so this is a massive opportunity for me to continue my development in a new environment, challenge myself and keep doing what I love most. I really like Rita's ambition for the team. There is a lot of potential within this group and I hope that together we can achieve great things.”
Riesen's arrival bolsters West Ham's defensive options as they prepare for the upcoming Women's Super League season. The club will be aiming to improve on their previous campaign under Guarino's leadership.
