Wales forward Hannah Cain has re-signed for Everton following the expiry of her contract with Leicester City. The 27-year-old returns to the club where she signed her first professional contract in July 2018, spending two years on Merseyside before moving to the Foxes.
International success
Cain, capped 26 times by Wales, played a pivotal role in the Red Dragons' historic qualification for their first major tournament. She scored the crucial goal against the Republic of Ireland that secured Wales' place at the 2025 European Championships, and later scored against England at the tournament itself.
Full-circle moment
Speaking to evertontv, Cain expressed her delight at returning to Goodison Park. "I am over the moon to be back," she said. "Goodison is such an amazing place and it is nice to finally be in it as a home team player. I am really excited to be a part of it."
She described the move as a "full-circle moment," adding: "I signed my first professional contract at Everton, so it is a full-circle moment for me, which is really nice. Coming back here, it feels like it is home for me."
Cain also highlighted the progress of the women's game, noting that when she first signed for Everton, the team played outside the city, whereas now they have Goodison Park as their home ground. "Having Goodison as our home shows how far the game has come," she said. "When I first signed my first deal, we played out of the city but now we have got this amazing place with so much history."
Reflecting on the atmosphere at Goodison, Cain added: "When I played here at the end of last season, there was a lot of fans and the atmosphere was incredible. So I am really excited to be a part of it."
Leicester departure
Cain left Leicester in June after the club's relegation from the Women's Super League. Her return to Everton marks a new chapter for the Wales international, who will look to make an impact in the upcoming season.
