Man Utd's George closing in on Brighton move

Manchester United defender Gabby George is on the verge of completing a move to Brighton & Hove Albion ahead of the new Women's Super League season. The 29-year-old, who has one year remaining on her contract after United activated an option clause in January, is expected to join the Seagulls for a six-figure fee.

George joined United in 2023 and has since made more than 50 appearances for the club. She was part of the squad that lifted the Women's FA Cup in 2024. The versatile defender is understood to be seeking regular first-team football, and Brighton's ambitious project under head coach Dario Vidosic appears to offer that opportunity.

Experience and pedigree

George's career began at Everton's academy, where she progressed to the senior team and made over 100 appearances before moving to United. She has also earned three caps for England, bringing international experience to a Brighton squad that has been actively strengthening this summer.

Brighton have already secured the signings of Switzerland captain Lia Walti and midfielder Emilie Joramo from Hammarby, among others. The club finished seventh in the WSL last season and will open the new campaign at home to Arsenal on Sunday, 6 September (12:00 BST).

United's transition

Meanwhile, Manchester United confirmed on Monday that manager Marc Skinner had left his role by mutual consent. The club is currently searching for a replacement, adding a layer of uncertainty as they prepare for the new season.

George's potential departure would mark another change for United, who are reshaping their squad under new leadership. For Brighton, the addition of a player with George's experience and versatility could prove pivotal as they aim to build on last season's mid-table finish.
