Short overview
Dani Ceballos has released an official statement saying goodbye to Real Madrid after nine years at the club. The midfielder expressed gratitude to the club, teammates, and fans, stating he gave his all for the crest.
Dani Ceballos has officially bid farewell to Real Madrid, releasing a heartfelt statement on social media to mark the end of his nine-year association with the club. The 28-year-old Spanish midfielder, who joined Madrid in 2017 from Real Betis, described the decision as difficult but necessary to take on a new challenge.
Ceballos' statement
In his statement, Ceballos wrote: "After nine years, the time has come to close one of the most important chapters of my life. It hasn't been an easy decision. Nor has it been an easy year, and perhaps that's precisely why I felt the time had come to bring this chapter to a close and take on a new challenge with the same enthusiasm I had when I first arrived."
He thanked the club for the opportunity to "wear the greatest crest in the world" and to learn from the best over many years. "I've been proud to defend this jersey, to grow as a soccer player and as a person, and to be part of a history full of successes that I'll always remember," he added.
Ceballos expressed gratitude to the president, coaches, teammates, club staff, and especially the fans. "Thank you for your unconditional support, for your high standards, for celebrating the happiest moments with me, and for standing by me during the toughest times as well. Your affection has meant far more than words can express, and it will stay with me forever."
A career marked by highs and lows
Ceballos arrived at Real Madrid in 2017 from Real Betis for a reported fee of €16.5 million. During his time at the club, he won two La Liga titles, two UEFA Champions League trophies, one Copa del Rey, and several other honors. However, his playing time was often limited, leading to loan spells at Arsenal in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.
Injuries also hampered his progress, including a serious ankle injury in 2023 that sidelined him for several months. Despite these setbacks, Ceballos remained a committed squad player, making 118 appearances for Madrid and scoring six goals.
What's next for Ceballos?
The midfielder's next destination is not yet confirmed, but reports suggest he is close to joining Real Betis, the club where he began his professional career. A return to the Benito Villamarín Stadium would mark a homecoming for the Utrera native, who has long expressed affection for his boyhood club.
Ceballos concluded his statement with a note of finality: "I leave with the peace of mind that I gave my all for this crest, that I defended these colors with pride and with all my heart, and with memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life. Real Madrid will always be a part of me, and I will always be grateful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Hala Madrid."
