Short overview

Former England winger Theo Walcott says Marcus Rashford is a 'dead cert to start' for the Three Lions at the World Cup, adding he is 'most psyched' about the forward's potential impact in Qatar.

Former England winger Theo Walcott has expressed strong support for Marcus Rashford ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, calling the Manchester United forward a "dead cert to start" for the Three Lions.

Walcott's Endorsement

Speaking to the media, Walcott said he is "most psyched" about Rashford's potential impact on the tournament. The 33-year-old, who earned 47 caps for England and played in three World Cups, highlighted Rashford's form and versatility as key reasons for his confidence.

"Marcus is a dead cert to start for me," Walcott said. "He's got that X-factor, he can play across the front line, and he's been in great form. I'm most psyched about what he can do."

Rashford's Season

Rashford, 25, has enjoyed a resurgence in form under new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, scoring eight goals and providing three assists in 19 appearances across all competitions this season. His performances have earned him a place in Gareth Southgate's 26-man squad for the World Cup, where England will face Iran, the United States, and Wales in Group B.

The forward has 16 goals in 51 international appearances and was a key figure in England's run to the Euro 2020 final, scoring three goals in the tournament.

England's World Cup Hopes

Walcott's comments come as England prepare for their opening match against Iran on November 21. The Three Lions are looking to improve on their semi-final finish at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where Rashford scored a penalty in the round of 16 victory over Colombia.

With Harry Kane leading the line, Rashford is expected to compete for a starting spot on the left wing or as a central striker. Walcott believes Rashford's pace and directness will be crucial against tournament defenses.

"He's got the ability to change a game in an instant," Walcott added. "That's the kind of player you need in a World Cup."
