Klopp: 'The day you don't want me anymore, I'm gone'

Jürgen Klopp, the newly appointed head coach of the German national football team, has made clear his uncompromising stance on his tenure. In a recent statement, Klopp declared that he would leave his position immediately and without any severance pay if the German Football Association (DFB) or the public no longer want him.

Klopp's Conditions for Staying

“The day you don't want me anymore, I'm gone – without any severance pay,” Klopp said. He added that even if someone were to call him “rubbish” tomorrow, he would step down. Klopp also stressed the importance of respecting his family: “If you behave badly and don't leave my family in peace, I'm gone.”

Open to Criticism

Despite his firm boundaries, Klopp expressed a willingness to accept professional critique. “Criticize me if something doesn’t work. I’m happy to work on it. It’s all about the job,” he said, underscoring his focus on performance and improvement.

National Team as Career Highlight

Klopp, who previously managed Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, indicated that coaching the national team represents the pinnacle of his career. “Jürgen Klopp doesn’t have a career after the national team. Ideally, this is the highlight of my career,” he stated, suggesting that this role would be his final major coaching position.
