Short overview

BBC Sport's FIFA World Cup 3D Experience now includes every match played so far, with real-time viewing for live BBC matches and replays for all completed games. Users can control camera angles, view from player perspectives, and access highlights or full replays.

BBC Sport's FIFA World Cup 3D Experience has been enhanced to include every match played so far in the tournament. The feature, a UK first exclusive to BBC Sport, allows users to relive matches in real time if broadcast live on the BBC, and now also offers replay mode for all completed games, including both highlights and full match replays.

How to access the 3D Experience

Users can access the experience by visiting bbc.co.uk/3dWorldCup. Throughout the tournament, the BBC will also provide links on its website and app, within live match pages, and on its sport, football, and World Cup indexes. The service is available only to users in the UK.

Available viewing modes

The 3D Experience offers full control over camera angles, serving as a second-screen option for deeper insight. Viewing modes include:

  • Broadcast view: Control the camera angle.
  • Tactical view: A bird's-eye view of the full pitch.
  • Third-person view: Follow a specific player on the pitch.
  • First-person view: See the match through a player's eyes.

These views are available in real time as the match happens, with the ability to rewind key moments, switch cameras, and view stats. After the match, users can access a highlights mode showing goals, shots, and penalties, as well as a full-match replay. The experience is described as "your match, your way."

Technology behind the experience

The beta 3D experience is powered by live official FIFA data and technology from XR company Immersiv.io. Skeletal data is used to recreate the match as it happens, similar to how semi-automated offside technology works. Matches shown on either BBC or ITV will have highlights and full-match replays available shortly after the final whistle.

Examples of use

The BBC highlights that users can put themselves in the shoes of Lionel Messi as he breaks World Cup records, watch from the viewpoint of Cape Verde's Vozinha during his goalkeeping heroics against Spain, or get the tactical view of England's victory over Croatia.
